Welcome to the North Dakota LifeSmarts Competition!

LifeSmarts…the ultimate consumer challenge, is an educational program coordinated by the Attorney General's Office and sponsored by the National Consumers League. This competition allows all North Dakota teens in 9th through 12th grades to test their consumer knowledge in a fun and rewarding way.

The initial stages of the competition will take place via the Internet. Scores will be tabulated and the twelve teams scoring the highest will be invited to the North Dakota championship competition in Bismarck, February 4, 2009. The North Dakota champions will have the opportunity to compete at the national competition, April 25-28, in St. Louis, MO.

Students may participate at home, school, public library, or any place where they have access to the Internet. Students will go through a series of three tests that will quiz their consumer awareness. The tests evaluate awareness in five areas: personal finance management, health and safety, environment, technology, and consumer rights and responsibilities.

The top twelve teams with the highest cumulative score move to the state finals in Bismarck. Only the highest scoring team from any school or organization may participate in the championship competition. A coach can bring two teams to the state competition if they score among the top twelve.

The state competition will be held Wednesday, February 4, 2009, at the Heritage Center on the Capitol grounds in Bismarck, ND.

In the event we have inclement weather, we will attempt to reschedule the competition. If we are unable to reschedule, the top online scoring team will be designated to represent North Dakota at the national competition.
